Rasa, Talam, and Strength
Ages 5-7 (60 minute class, class size limited to 7 students)
This introductory class designed specifically for young children offers an introduction to Bharatanatyam through rhythmic storytelling with the body, and basic exercises to develop strength and coordination. Rather than emphasizing basic Bharatanatyam adavus (foundational abstract steps) for very young children, this class works with what children in this age group already have in great abundance: imagination and energy. Stories include Hindu parables and mythical tales, fairy tales, and any other stories the children are familiar with and wish to explore through dance. This class is currently full for Winter 2017. Please contact me about starting a "fresh" batch with your child in 2017.
Bharatanatyam Fundamentals for Adults
This class welcomes adults from a variety of dance backgrounds (or none at all!). If you have studied Bharatanatyam briefly (less the 5 years) want to hit a reset button, this is also the class for you. We will focus on building strength and stamina through adavus (foundational abstract steps in Bharatanatyam) and yoga, while also developing our rasa through exploration of music, rhythm, and stories. This class helps adults get in shape and develop an expressive artistic persona. This class has availability for Winter 2017. Please contact me to join!
Classes held at Sereda DanceWorks in Natick.
