Rasa, Talam, and Strength
This introductory class combines two levels of beginners, allowing new students to view and interact with students who have been dancing for longer. New students focus on building strength and rhythm, and learn elementary dances that focus on feeling, expression, and musical timing. Children who have been dancing with NDS for 1-2 years progress through basic foundational steps (adavus) and short dances that include elements of expressive and abstract dance. This class is full for Fall 2017. Please check back in Winter 2017 to see if there are slots available.
Bharatanatyam Fundamentals for Adults
This class welcomes adults from a variety of dance backgrounds (or none at all!). If you have studied Bharatanatyam briefly (less the 5 years) or just want to hit a reset button, this is also the class for you. We will focus on building strength and stamina through adavus (foundational abstract steps in Bharatanatyam) and yoga, while also developing our rasa through exploration of music, rhythm, and stories. This class helps adults get in shape and develop an expressive artistic persona. This class has availability for Fall 2017. Please contact me to join!
Classes held at Sereda DanceWorks in Natick.
NATyA Dance Collective:
Twice a month, a group of rigorously trained dancers meet to co-produce new work together. Originating in Open Studio sessions that have been ongoing since 2015, NATyA Dance Collective now works over the course of a full year to produce a Spring show that inspires our heart and bodies, and takes conceptual and choreographic risks. In 2015 and 2016, NDS produced Open Studio Salons that built the foundation for the current collective. Please email or send a contact note if you're interested in joining this ensemble. We gather on Sunday mornings from 8-10AM at Sereda DanceWorks.
NDS is available for solo and group performances in the greater Boston area. We specialize in interactive programming for children and families, including educational performances. Our repertoire includes familiar stories from around the world, interpreted through Bharatanatyam, and paired with English narrative and eclectic music. I am also happy to present Bharatanatyam in solo or group formats, and we can tailor a performance to fit the needs of your event. Please email if you're interested in working with me to craft a special performance for your event.
